Fishing Charters in Tamarindo, honestly

Half-day charters typically fish inshore — roosterfish, jacks, and snapper along the rocky points — while full-day trips run offshore chasing sailfish, marlin, dorado, and yellowfin tuna. Which bite is on depends on the season and water temperature, so tell the captain what you're hoping for and let them steer you to the right trip length.

Charters are almost always private: the price covers the boat, not per person, and includes captain, mate, tackle, and usually drinks. Costa Rica's billfish are catch-and-release by practice and regulation; dorado and tuna often come home for dinner — many local restaurants will cook your catch.

Before you book

  • Prices are usually per boat, not per person — split with your group
  • Full-day trips are the play for billfish; half-days shine inshore
  • Take motion-sickness tablets 30–60 minutes before departure, not on the boat
  • Ask your captain which restaurants will cook your catch
