Groceries for the rental, sunscreen you forgot, a swimsuit, a gift to take home. Find the right kind of shop in Tamarindo, or ask Gaudy to take you there or pick it up for you.

Groceries are the first errand for most visitors with a rental kitchen. Auto Mercado in Garden Plaza and Super Compro near Oneida Park handle a full stock-up; Vindi and the smaller minisupers cover ice, water and snacks, and a few specialty shops sell organic, Italian and bulk goods.

The main road and the plazas behind it are where the surf shops, swimwear and clothing boutiques, jewelers and gift shops cluster. Several chains call a branch “Tamarindo” when it is actually in Villarreal, about 5 km inland: the MegaSuper, Maxi Palí, a Fischel pharmacy, Colono hardware and the electronics stores. They're listed as nearby, with their real location.

Schedules as published by each organizer when we checked. Markets change with the season; check their own pages before you plan around one.

  • TamaMarket (Tamarindo Saturday market / feria)

    Saturdays, 8 am to 2 pm, per the organizer

    Oneida Park (the skate park), central Tamarindo

    Weekly open-air community market run by Tamarindo's development association (ADIT), with local farmers, prepared food, artisan crafts and art. A Wednesday women's market is also listed at the same park.

  • Tamarindo Moonlight Market

    Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5 to 9:30 pm, per the organizer

    Plaza Palmas, Tamarindo

    Twice-weekly evening market with handmade crafts, jewelry, clothing and street-food stalls. The organizer describes it as a local night market and small-business incubator.

  • The TAM (Tamarindo Artisanal Market)

    A permanent indoor market, open most days, per its own site

    Upstairs in the Sea Tower building, above Super Compro

    Permanent indoor artisan market with stalls from local makers selling art, jewelry, clothing and food and drink.

Playa Langosta is mostly homes, condos and a few hotels, about 2 km south of central Tamarindo. For everyday basics there's a small minisuper on Avenida Galicia; for a full stock-up, pharmacies, surf shops and boutiques, everything above is a five-minute drive away.
